MATERIALS USED:

All our furniture is made using only European Spruce wood sourced from areas that are carefully chosen, suitably managed and have reforestation programmes in place. More specifically:

  • Kitchen carcasses made using 1.8 cm-thick solid Spruce with knots. Alternatively, the kitchen box unit carcass can be made from 1.8cm-thick “Tanne” melamine-faced panels with low formaldehyde emission levels (E1 class). If you opt for melamine-faced box units, you can have the finishing side panels in the same colour as the fronts.
  • Exposed sides made from 1.8-cm thick solid Spruce without knots, 3-cm thick with knots; Nuovo Mondo pilaster side panels W 7.5 cm and Maestrale pilaster side panels W 9 cm in Solid Spruce without knots.
  • Doors: made from 2.6cm-thick solid Spruce with no knots for Kelly, Karen, Karen, Tabià and Fada models. They can feature knots on request. The Nora model is available in Spruce wood with visible knots only. The Old Wood model is always in old Spruce wood with visible knots. Doors are coated in their disassembled state (frame – panel) so that no uncoated parts will ever become visible, despite the wood’s natural movement. All doors are fitted with Blum soft-close hinges.
  • Drawers: front made from 2.6cm-thick solid Spruce with no knots for Kelly, Karen, Karen, Tabià and Fada models. They can feature knots on request. The Nora model is available in Spruce wood with visible knots only. The Old Wood model is always in old Spruce wood with visible knots. Drawer interiors have three sides made entirely from birch plywood with a bleached finish. The bottom is made from 6mm-thick plywood. All drawers are fitted with Blum soft- close runners.
  • Deep drawers: deep drawer interiors have four sides made entirely from birch plywood with a bleached finish. The bottom is made from 6mm-thick plywood. The deep drawer is then fitted with the front door. All deep drawers are fitted with Blum soft-close full-extension runners.
  • Glass panels: Glass panels positioned any lower than 100 cm off the floor are made from safety glass.
  • Back panels: Units with doors or drawers have back panels made from 6mm-thick plywood in a bleached finish. Back panels on units with glazed doors are coordinated for all finishes.
  • Shelves: made from 3cm-thick solid Spruce with knots.

* Appliances come with warranty certificates issued directly by the relevant manufacturers.

* The glue used in the production process is water-based vinyl adhesive that meets the “D3” requirements of standard

UNI EN 204-205 and is non-toxic to humans and the environment.

* Furniture is assembled using Beechwood dowels and small items of metal hardware.

COATING:

  • All available finishes are produced using water-based eco-friendly paints and varnishes that are non-toxic to humans and the environment, made from natural components that enhance the beauty of the wood, while also giving it excellent mechanical strength and chemical resistance along with good UV stability. They meet current standards on emissions into the atmosphere during product coating. On request they can comply with the regulations in force for children’s toys (European standard EN 71-3).
  • Category 3 and 4 finishes are brushed. Brushing is a special process that brings out the wood’s grain. It is carried out on all exterior parts, including edges. Category 4 finishes are given an antique or talc finish on the outside only.
  • You may see minor changes in the colour of the furniture over time since wood is a natural light-sensitive material.

ASSEMBLY:

To ensure product quality, assembly must be carried out by specialized personnel only.

SAFETY

  • The fact that the product is made entirely from solid wood and uses only water-based glue, varnishes and paints ensures that Scandola furniture is in no way toxic for people or for the environment. The furniture we make, when used correctly, does not contain any substance that is harmful to people.
  • All Scandola items have rounded edges and corners to make using the furniture as hazard-free as possible.

USE AND MAINTENANCE

  • Wood is a natural product and requires care and attention. To care properly for your pieces, make sure you don’t leave wet objects sitting on them or damage the surface by setting down pointed or sharp-edged objects, pans or crockery straight off the hob, or any other item likely to cause damage.
  • Clean using a cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution or with non-harsh cleaners. You can order an appropriate cleaner and wood reviver from Scandola.
  • Marble tops and sinks can be damaged by acids such as from lemons, wine, tomatoes, etc…Hence we must strongly advise you not to leave acids on surfaces for any length of time: clean dirt off straight away to avoid stains.
